Summary
The Agenda 2030 with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provides the framework that all United Nations (UN) member states have pledged to fulfil. The aim of this project is to develop a general framework for future-proofing the sustainability of local communities in regional Australia. The project team will undertake comprehensive case studies using mixed qualitative (participatory) and quantitative (modelling) methods to assess options for improving multiple socio-economic and environmental dimensions of sustainability for two regional Australian communities. The local community in Goulburn-Murray region in Victoria is my case study which is struggling with recent drought and water reform while seeing opportunities for tourism and digital infrastructure. The Goulburn–Murray region is regarded as Australia’s food bowl, being the country’s largest irrigation district. It produces more of Australia’s fruit and dairy produce than any other region, as well as significant general horticulture and mixed farming, so it is very important. Also we aim toevaluating synergies and trade-offs among sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Goulburn-Murray region. Because understanding the linkages between multiple targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) may help to integrate different sectoral programmes and develop coherent cross-sectoral policy to explore synergies.
